From Connectivity to Conversion: How Telekom Malaysia Reimagined Digital Growth Through Unifi

Telekom Malaysia (TM), the nation’s leading telecommunications provider, set out to unlock the next phase of digital growth for its consumer brand, Unifi – offering comprehensive home and business fiber broadband, mobile, and entertainment packages in Malaysia. While digital adoption across app and web was strong, conversion across add-on and upgrade journeys lagged due to fragmented customer data, static campaigns, and high mid-funnel drop-offs.

By partnering with Netcore, Unifi re-engineered how digital engagement worked — moving from campaign-led communication to always-on, personalized journeys powered by unified data, real-time segmentation, and automated orchestration across app and web.

The transformation delivered a clear, measurable impact.

At Unifi, scale has never been the challenge - relevance has.

Every day, millions of Malaysians log on to Unifi. They stream, browse, manage their connections, explore upgrades, and interact with a digital ecosystem that spans broadband, mobile, entertainment, and smart home services. As the consumer brand of Telekom Malaysia, Unifi doesn’t just power connectivity – it sits quietly inside the daily digital habits of an entire nation.

From the outside, everything seemed to be working.

Traffic was strong. Digital adoption was high. The self-care app and website were well-used. Customers were discovering add-ons, clicking into smart devices, and spending time across journeys.

But when Unifi looked closer, a different story emerged.

Customers were arriving – but not converting.

They explored. They considered. And then, often, they left.

The problem wasn’t interest or demand. It was what happened in between.

When Growth Creates Its Own Friction

Unifi’s scale – its greatest strength – also brought a new layer of complexity.

Behind every digital interaction sat a complex reality: customer data spread across systems, multiple product lines with different eligibility rules, and engagement powered largely by static segments and manually run campaigns. At this size, relevance was hard to sustain.

Customers were shown offers that didn’t apply to them.

Others never saw the upgrades they were actually eligible for.

Add-on journeys slowed, stalled, and broke mid-way through.

Inside the business, teams worked harder. More campaigns were launched. More messages were sent.

  • But the results didn’t follow.
  • Campaign-led growth had reached its ceiling.

Unifi realized that scaling the same approach would only create more noise — not more revenue. To move forward, the brand didn’t need more communication. It needed a different way of engaging altogether.

The Moment of Rethink

This became a turning point. Instead of asking how to send better campaigns, Unifi stepped back to examine a more fundamental limitation: most digital campaigns were still built for segments and cohorts, not individuals.

While segmentation helped group customers at scale, it struggled to reflect real-time intent, eligibility nuances, and micro-behaviors unfolding within each journey. Customers who looked similar on paper often behaved very differently in the moment – and cohort-based campaigns couldn’t adapt fast enough.

Unifi began to ask a different question: What if engagement could respond to micro-moments, not just broad segments?

What if digital journeys worked like a conversation – sensing intent, context, and eligibility in real time, rather than relying on static cohorts?

The answer demanded a fundamental shift.

Unifi set out to move from one-off, cohort-led campaigns to always-on journeys that could sense intent at a granular level, understand eligibility dynamically, and respond in real time. Automation wouldn’t just make execution faster; it would make relevance possible at scale.

The ambition was clear:

  • Bring all customer data into a single, actionable view
  • Move beyond cohort-level targeting to micro-moment personalization
  • Make eligibility-aware engagement the default, not the exception
  • Respond to customer behavior in the moment
  • Replace manual effort with intelligent orchestration

Rebuilding the Engine While in Motion

01. A Unified Customer Intelligence Layer (Netcore CDP)

The transformation began beneath the surface.

Using Netcore’s Customer Data Platform, Unifi unified fragmented customer data across business units into a single source of truth. Customer behavior, product ownership, and eligibility could now be understood together – enabling decisions that reflected the full customer context, not isolated data points.

02. Dynamic Segmentation Built for Telco Complexity

Static segments gave way to dynamic, real-time segments powered by eligibility and behavior. This allowed Unifi to ensure customers only saw offers relevant to them – eliminating wasted impressions and mid-funnel friction.

03. Always-On Journey Orchestration

At the heart of the transformation was always-on, omnichannel journey orchestration.

With Netcore, Unifi activated behavior-led journeys that spanned email, app push notifications, web push notifications, in-app and on-site nudges, and on-site messages – ensuring customers experienced a consistent, connected conversation across touchpoints.

Journeys responded dynamically to customer behavior. When users explored add-ons, paused mid-funnel, or returned to the site or app, the next interaction adapted automatically – without manual intervention.

04. Real-Time App & Web Personalization

Generic offers were replaced with personalized carousels, contextual CTAs, and in-app nudges that appeared exactly when customers showed intent. Engagement was no longer planned weeks in advance – it responded in the moment.

Operationally, everything changed. Teams moved faster. Optimization became continuous. Engagement was no longer static.

It was alive.

When Intent Finally Met Timing

As journeys replaced campaigns, something shifted.

Customers encountered fewer irrelevant messages. Add-on discovery felt natural, not forced. Eligibility checks disappeared into the background. Friction quietly fell away.

The impact showed up where it mattered most.

Add-on subscription journeys began to complete. Engagement across the self-care app increased. Digital channels moved from being service touch-points to becoming consistent contributors to revenue.

What started as a martech transformation had become a growth engine.

From Connectivity to Continuous Growth

For Unifi and Telekom Malaysia, this journey marked a clear shift: martech evolved from a support function into a strategic growth lever, and self-care channels became revenue-driving surfaces. By moving from campaign-led execution to always-on, personalized journeys, TM and Unifi turned everyday connectivity into continuous, measurable growth.

Looking ahead, Unifi is advancing this transformation with Netcore’s Agentic Marketing capabilities. With the Insights Agent already in use, teams are preparing to expand into Content Agent and Segment Agent modules – enabling faster decisions, smarter experimentation, and deeper personalization at scale, while preserving the trust and performance that now define Unifi’s digital engagement.
