60% of Revenue, Right On Time: How NIVO Fixed One Deal A Day's Inbox Visibility

46.7%
Lift in email open rates
~60%
Of total revenue driven by Netcore

Every deal on One Deal A Day’s site comes with an expiry date. At midnight, the countdown resets, the catalogue turns over, and whatever didn’t sell today is simply gone. It’s a business built entirely around urgency – the one thing it couldn’t afford was for that urgency to arrive late. But for months, a meaningful share of One Deal A Day’s marketing emails weren’t landing where South African shoppers would actually see them in time. The content was right. The targeting was right. The emails just weren’t landing in the inbox where customers would actually be able to view it, in the only window that mattered. Netcore’s Inbox Visibility Optimization Program (NIVO) fixed that. Today, Netcore’s full stack of campaigns and journeys accounts for roughly 60% of One Deal A Day’s total revenue – powered in part by the inbox fix, which lifted open rates 46.7% relative once those emails actually started arriving on time.

About One Deal A Day

One Deal A Day has run South Africa’s flash-sale model out of Cape Town since 2009. Every 24 hours the entire catalogue resets – new products, new discounts, a new countdown, nothing held over. It’s built for shoppers who check in out of habit rather than intent: a scroll during morning coffee, a browse on the commute, always answering the same question – what’s live today. That habit adds up to a serious scale: 46.29 million monthly visits and 13.32 million unique visitors as of July 2026 (SimilarWeb).

Industry Context

Flash-sale retail runs on a clock most e-commerce doesn’t have to think about. A missed email for a typical online retailer is a missed opportunity – annoying, but recoverable next week. For One Deal A Day, a missed email is usually just a missed deal, full stop. There’s no catching it tomorrow. Tomorrow is a different sale entirely. Which makes inbox placement less a deliverability metric and more the actual mechanism the whole urgency-driven model runs on.

One Deal A Day builds urgency into every part of the experience – live countdown timers, stock counters ticking toward “sold out,” a hard reset at midnight. The site does its job. The problem sat one step earlier: a significant share of marketing emails weren’t making it to where daily-deal shoppers actually look first, and traditional deliverability fixes had limited effect on changing that. A second, quieter complication compounded it – a same-market competitor with an almost identical name, One Day Only, made it easy for a scanned inbox to skim past the wrong “One Day” altogether.

Neither issue was about the emails themselves. The content was working. The targeting was working. What wasn’t working was arrival – deals were landing somewhere shoppers would find them well after the countdown, and the moment, had passed.

Netcore recommended and implemented NIVO Program as the fix. The team ran a baseline assessment first, benchmarking performance against the three months prior (1 March – 31 May 2026), then implemented NIVO on 8 June 2026. From there, deliverability, inbox placement, open rate, click-through rate, conversions and revenue were tracked continuously through August.

What Netcore Did

Netcore’s role went beyond the initial recommendation. The team built and completed the NIVO implementation, then kept monitoring inbox placement and campaign performance as sale volumes shifted through peak periods.

One Deal A Day was already running a fairly complete Netcore stack going in – Email campaigns for flash sales, reminders and promotions; Journeys for Welcome flows, Cart Abandonment and Product View Abandonment; a live Product Catalog feeding real-time offers into templates, countdown timers included; and Web Push as a second channel. Those journeys were already converting well on their own – between them, 821 conversions and close to ZAR 490K in revenue over the tracked period, a thread picked up in full under Results. None of the stack changed. The audience stayed the same, the creative largely stayed the same – what changed was where the email landed in the customer’s inbox.

With visibility no longer the bottleneck, Netcore’s team turned to what could actually be optimised once emails were being seen: subject line testing (emoji versus none), send-time timing, and ongoing deliverability consultation as campaign volumes shifted through the tracked period.

ODAD ODAD ODAD

Open rates climbed 46.7% relative, comparing the three months before NIVO to the period after. Click rates held essentially flat – which matters more than it sounds, since reach had broadened and engagement didn’t dilute with it.

MetricBefore NIVOAfter NIVOChange
Average Open Rate13.8%20.8%+46.7% relative
Average Click Rate0.28%0.31%Stable

Performance also improved on the historically weaker sending days. And subject-line testing, which had limited value while emails sat buried out of sight, started to actually mean something once open rates had somewhere real to go.
